What is a Registered Behavior Technician™?

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a certified behavior analysis professional. The Certified RBT is under the supervision of a BCBA or BCaBA,
RBT Registration Requirements (Task List 3)
To register or renew as an RBT, you must complete all of the following:
1. Age & Education

Be at least 18 years old

Have a high school diploma or equivalent
2. Background Check

Pass a criminal background check (within 180 days of application)
3. 40-Hour RBT Training

Must be BACB-approved
-
Covers all Task List 3 content areas, including:

Measurement
-
Assessment
-
Skill acquisition
-
Behavior reduction
-
Documentation & reporting
-
Professional conduct & scope of practice
-
4. Competency Assessment
-
Conducted by a BCBA or BCaBA
-
Must follow the official RBT Competency Assessment Form

Includes:

Direct observation
-
Interview
-
Role-play and skill demonstration
-
5. RBT Exam
-
Administered by Pearson VUE
-
85 multiple-choice questions (75 scored, 10 unscored)
-
Based entirely on Task List 3
6. Ongoing Supervision (After Certification)

Minimum 5% monthly supervision
-
At least 2 face-to-face contacts per month
-
Supervision must be documented and signed
